This Dog Mom is Tired!
It’s 11:22 p.m. and my “TT&FP Blog Post” reminder just popped up as I was crawling on to my bed. Now it’s the middle of the night, and I am just getting started on my latest advice to the busy Mama and Dog worlds, and I KNOW it’s something that we can all relate to…I just sat down, and there is a giant dog face propped up on the side of my fluffy ivory comforter (I know, who has an ivory bed with dogs and kids…) giving me the most intense stare. No matter how much I try to ignore him, I am pretty sure he KNOWS I can see his massive silhouette out of the corner of my eye. He’s bored. He’s so bored! I have been working all day, then I walk in the door and pick up mom duty. My house is a disaster zone, I mean who knows when I last cleaned a bath tub, and I just busted out ONE of my final projects for this semester, and guess who took a back seat today? My dogs.
To be continued…after I WALK MY DOGS…?
As one tired Mama (both dog and babe) to another, I am with all of you…It’s SO hard to keep everyone happy, yet for some ungodly reason Mama’s tend to make it our life ambition to keep a smile on everyone’s face, even if that means we are fighting to stay awake along the way. Lack of sleep? YES…sometimes it’s a struggle to make sure the dog(s) gets some attention, because believe it or not, the hole in your back yard is just going to get bigger, and bigger if you can’t find some time to burn some of that energy your awesome pooch brings to your family dynamic. My husband works late right now, so it’s on me to make sure these 3 are as happy as their 2 legged siblings, and sometimes that feels impossible!
I know I’ve covered Mental Stimulation in a couple posts prior, and that is definitely going to be really helpful. Pick up some slow down bowls, some thinker toys, some bones, and play a couple games before you go to bed! Breakfast and Dinner were served today inside slow down bowls in the Oliver house…Don’t mind the remodel mess in the background…
My pack doesn’t generally seem to mind, but really they need some exercise, so the moment my kiddos closed their little eyes, and I had back up, I grabbed leashes, treats, a clicker, and we took a small training lap around my block! 3 times to be exact , because even the old man was tired of my nonsense! It took me a total of about 40 minutes, and it was worth it! Each dog had a little one on one time so I feel good, they feel good, and even though it was small, we did something!
While my slow down bowls, and a couple of games helped me get through the day, I have to remember that we took responsibility for these pups, knowing that they would need daily care and attention. Am I saying I have never missed a day of dog only time? No. Because that would be a lie…What I AM saying is make sure you find a way to release that energy, for your dog’s sake…and YOURS, or they may eat your trees…
