Healthy Mama, Healthy Babes, Healthy Pups!
Any training facility you frequent will tell you that it’s soooo important to keep your animals active, to keep their bodies healthy, for a variety of reasons. BUT walking my dogs, just wasn’t enough for me. I found myself being forgotten often…I started avoiding photos, and videos because I was so self inflicted about what I was doing (or not doing) to myself. I wanted to have time for myself, but for a moment in time, I was convinced the only thing that mattered was how much I gave to my kids, my hubby, and my dogs, that if it was all taken care of, then I was fine…because I was the bottom of the list. I was wrong. Period.
If I can’t offer the example to my babes, then they won’t “just get it”…monkey see, monkey do is reality, but it felt SO impossible for me to get started with young kids. The world told me it was irresponsible to “Just “drop them off” somewhere so I can run on a treadmill”.(yep…that’s a quote from someone SUPER supportive) So I had an overwhelming level of guilt about it all. Even though my hubby has always been supportive of pretty much whatever I do, I didn’t feel like I was fitting into the ‘perfect Mom’ mold if I took off for two hours a day to take care of ME…That’s when a friend of mine took me (and the kids) along to our first Fit4Mom Murray session With Nicole Bennion.
I was nervous…that I wasn’t the smallest, or the most “in shape” Mama there, but in reality, it didn’t even matter! I had an hour of a work out planned out for me, and I was with other Mamas doing exactly what I was! The women are amazing! We are split between working and stay at home moms and that makes it such an amazing group of life long friends that bring our own personal best day in, and day out. I love that we are free to work hard while Nicole keeps an eye on all of our babes. We even have play groups after class to get the kids out, so they can make lasting friendships.
When I started, Ava was so young, and I was battling constant low blood sugar, (yes…I am a predisposed, YOUNG diabetic…no I was not overweight when I was diagnosed…surprise!) so I had Karma with me fairly often. She has been my companion now for about 7.5 years, and has saved me on multiple occasions. I was really concerned about taking her anywhere with me, I didn’t want the questions, or grabby hands…that was NEVER the case here! Everyone was so welcoming, and caring, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a more receptive and respectful group of Mamas and kiddos. I gained an amazing group of caring women that in turn, helped me gain back the confidence I had lost. In fact, when I toted along my pups working towards service, they were always welcomed with open arms too!
The program pushes for further advancement, (just like we do in obedience classes ??) which makes perfect sense, and gave me amazing goals to push for! I recently did the last session of Fit4Mom’s BodyBack, and it was amazing! I lost inches, gained confidence, and learned how to work certain parts of myself, soul included. Being as I teach classes in the evening also, Nicole was always super receptive to these two (Karma and Vino) being in tow with me in class, and let’s be real, they kept me running faster than usual!
So to all those hard working Mamas out there (with jobs, and SAH), making sure the dog gets walked, and the kids get enrichment…don’t be afraid to take care of yourself. If you aren’t happy, and healthy, who will be there to stroll with the dog, and make healthy meals, (Because I know my hubby can only make Mac and cheese ?) and keep the Pack life running smoothly? You are important, and you are needed! So don’t let yourself disappear into everyone else’s needs, make some time for yourself!
